Vintage Finds and Reproductions Planning for VLV!

Although it's still eight months away until VLV 15, I'm eagerly anticipating it's arrival! Since this is my first time going to VLV this coming year, I want to have some fabulous outfits on hand. I came across some wonderful items that I think will make for great sets to take to Vegas!

I found a gorgeous vintage 40's Simplicity blouse pattern from Miss Betty's Attic that I've purchased to have some customized blouses that I can take, with some great printed fabrics in floral prints and vintage-inspired prints. I also found a reproduction 40's pattern from Oh Sew Charming for some swing trousers that I'm going to have made in several different twills. I was lucky enough to also find some great vintage buttons for my blouses and trousers from Wicked Wool Gathering. I also found a great vintage red and white gingham blouse from Seek Vintage that will look perfect with my swing trousers. Last, but not least, I found some cute playsuits that will be great for lounging by the pool parties from Fancy Antler, Vintage Vixen 86, and Olive You Vintage.

I hope you enjoy looking at all my VLV goodies and crafts! I am so excited, I can't wait for April to get here!

Crafting Flower Hair Clips and Fascinators

I've been working over the past week on making some customized hair clips and hair fascinators for myself, in the hopes that I can start custom-making them for orders in the future. I am very pleased with how they turned out and can't wait to make a few more with the other materials I've not been able to use yet, including some more orchids and roses. I also plan on making some more fascinators with different ribbon, as I have all sorts of colors to choose from. If I can find some different hats, I'd like to use those as well.

I hope to try and list some hair clips and fascinators on Etsy in the near future. I'd like to gauge the interest of my readers to find out if you all would have any interest in purchasing clips and fascinators like the ones pictured from a place like Etsy? Please let me know if you'd like to see items like these featured for sale. I can customize the details on the flowers and ribbon to create something unique and beautiful, so if you have something in mind, just let me know and I'll see what I can come up with. You can either comment here on your interest or you can email me at vintagelovingmom@gmail.com. Thanks!

Enjoy!

My new haircut!

As promised, I had my hair cut this past Saturday into a variation of a middy plus cut.

I am thrilled with how the cut turned out! I've grown my hair out for quite some time and it feels wonderful to have a lighter and shorter do. Luckily, it's just the right length to do hot roller sets, victory rolls, pin curls, and even up-dos.

Ta-da!

Time for a change, on my hair that is!

Most of you know that I am a vintage hairstyle enthusiast. On most days, I almost always wear a vintage coiffure or some variation of yesteryear's 30's, 40's and 50's dos. However, that is becoming increasingly harder to achieve with the long length of my hair, as I've let it grow out for the past few years and it now reaches the upper part of my mid-back.

I have been looking over some of my favorite silver screen starlets' locks, including the beautiful tresses and coiffures of Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow, Bette Davis, Hedy Lamarr, Vivien Leigh, Rita Hayworth, Betty Grable, Lauren Bacall, and Elizabeth Taylor. I was also inspired by the cuts of vintage gurus like Casey at Elegant Musings and Ashley from Lisa Freemont Street. After perusing all these gorgeous dos, I decided that it was time for a much-needed change. I wanted something that allowed me to more easily manage and achieve my favorite vintage hairstyles like victory rolls, pageboy styles, pompadours, skullcap coiffures, continuous rolls and the rocket. I was wary of having my hair cut in such a way that would allow me to carry out these styles simply because there really isn't any stylists in this area who specialize in vintage hairstyling. Luckily, I finally came across a wonderful book that has been out of print, Daniela Turudich's 1940's Hairstyles, which contains authentic 40's haircut diagrams for stylists to use when cutting hair.

So, since I have a clear picture of exactly what I'm wanting and a diagram to achieve that, I'm taking the plunge on Saturday and getting a middy plus cut! The cut I've chosen will layer my hair to about 4.5 inches in length, leaving it stopping right above my shoulders, with a flattering slight U shape at the bottom, which works perfect for vintage styling but still allows for modern styles when needed. Since I have naturally curly hair, I think this length will work perfect for wearing natural or in hot rollers. My hair is currently about 5 inches past my shoulders at the moment, so that means I will be having roughly 4 inches cut from my length.

I'll be sure to post again after I've gotten the cut with my new look. Wish me luck!

Estate Sale Finds and Etsy Treasures

I had the chance to go to a few estate sales this past weekend in our area and was glad that I did! It's not too often that there are estate sales in the area, as most people just have a yard sale or an auction in order to get rid of things they no longer need. I found all sorts of wonderful items that I got for cheap, cheap, cheap! There were lots of more furniture items that I would have loved to bring home, like a 50's dinette set and a 50's bedroom suit, but I just didn't have the room for them. Alas, they will have to find a home with some other lucky person! I also found a few treasures on Etsy that arrived before I left for vacation, but I've just now had the chance to share them with you. I hope you enjoy looking at all my goodies!

I apologize for the poor lighting in most of these shots. The lighting in our home is just never reliable and varies each and every time!
